One of the greatest ability we have is being able to think for ourselves (especially in terms of critical thinking).
However, it is also one of the most difficult tasks for most to do as well..
Because in psychology, it’s called conformity. People will agree with something even if they know 100% that what they are agreeing with is either false or wrong if they are in a group setting and given the time to reconsider. There was a test that people would state whether a line was longer or shorter. Everyone would say the wrong answer on purpose (the actors) and the real participant would conform to what they were answering, almost indefinitely after the first go around.
🤔 But, all jokes aside.
Here is an exercise to see just how valid it is.
What is religion and why do we have it?
How just is politics?
What’s more important, being taught education or self-education?
Is it better to be a jack of all or a master of only one thing?
Why are the homeless, homeless?
Who are you? Why are you the way that you are?
Why do you like what you do and or dislike the things that you do? (Even the people).
Why do we fear what we fear? Despite other people overcome these same “fears”.
What do you do when no one is watching and why?
(There are no right or wrong answers to any of these).
Do we really feel that way or have we been conditioned to feel and or think that way?
Our beliefs dictate our entire paradigm.
But who beliefs are they really?
Okay, okay, does your head hurt yet?
In all seriousness, this is more to “prove” that it all really comes down to the fact that we can do anything that we set our minds too.
Because those who say they can and can’t are both normally right.
It all comes down to perspective.
All it takes is deciding what we want is really what we want. Then pursuing it.
1.For those who don’t know what they want yet (which is completely okay), the best way to figure that out is to take an hour or so a day and write out what your beliefs and values are, then write out all the things that really make us think/feel that way. Before long we will boil it down to an extrinsic validation of belief or an intrinsic one.
(Add or remove whatever feels most relevant and or arbitrary).
2. OR try out what you “like or dislike” for free for 30 days and see if you still feel the same way about it, even better, doing it alone, if possible.
It’s hard to know where we are going unless we know where we have been and where we are.
